Theatrical & Dance Costumes
About Theatrical and Dance Costumes
Having been trained for theatrical costumes, I’ve worked for several theater companies, in Colorado and North Carolina. I played a variety of roles, such as the pattern-maker and director of costume construction. Currently, I use the same talents to do private commissions for a variety of events, such as Comicon, costume parties, the Renaissance Fair, and charity fundraisers.
Colorado Shakespeare Festival
Oberon and Titania (fairy king and queen) from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, produced by the Colorado Shakespeare Festival.
Theseus and Hippolyta from Colorado Shakespeare Festival’s production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.
Opera and Ballet
I had a course on classical tutus, at North Carolina School of the Arts. These were designed and create for a dance student.
I designed and built this Mouse King costume, for Ballet Nouveau Colorado’s production of ‘The Nutcracker’.
This costume was made for Piedmont Opera’s production of ‘La Boheme’, in 1999. I patterned, draped & constructed it, from Kathryn Grillo’s design. As you can see, there’s a lot going on, visually, with many patterns, plus a dynamic and intricate design. However, a cohesive color scheme brings it all together.
Coats based on 18th century men’s fashion, for North Carolina Dance Theatre’s ‘Cinderella’ ballet.
